FIFA’s eFootball team invited all participating Member Associations (MAs) of the upcoming to join them for an eFootball-related round table at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich on 18 March. MAs from all over the world accepted the invitation and took part in discussions on taking the next steps towards nations growing eFootball in their countries.

These cover eFootball grassroots topics, supporting of female players in the future as well as growing the sport on a professional level in their territories in the upcoming years.

Twenty nations will be part of the first-ever FIFA eNations Cup 2019, a showcase event to find the best eFootball national team as part of the EA SPORTS FIFA 19 Global Series on the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2019. The event will take place on 13 and 14 April in London and will be broadcasted by the Media Rights Licensees for the event, as well as being streamed live across FIFA’s digital channels. An innovative 2v2 format will be featured at the tournament to find the best eFootball nation in the world.

Christian Volk, Director of eFootball and Gaming at FIFA, said after the round table: "Following unprecedented interest in the event, the decision to expand the FIFA eNations Cup from 16 to 20 teams will allow more Member Associations a chance to compete on an international stage in eFootball. It will also provide an important stepping stone for FIFA to continue growing and developing eFootball and the FIFA eNations Cup for Member Associations and the wider eFootball community in the future.”

Volk also said the inaugural Member Association round table was very positive: He added: “We were very encouraged by the level of interest and the great appetite for the FIFA eNations Cup and eFootball in general. We at FIFA are very happy to support our Member Associations in the process of creating a professional ecosystem.”
