Rising star Francisco Cerundolo granted wildcard into Cordoba Open
Rising Argentine star Francisco Cerundolo, 21, has received the third wildcard into the Cordoba Open, the tournament announced via its social media. Cerundolo, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 228 in the world, is set to make his debut appearance on the clay courts of Cordoba.
The Argentine will also be making his only second appearance at the level as so far in his short career he has played mostly the Challenger and Futures level events. Cerundolo debuted at the ATP level last year after being grayed a wildcard into the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires.
The Argentine didn't disappoint the Buenos Aires organizers and fans at the event as he performed extremely well against world No. 25 Guido Pella in his debut at the ATP level. Back then, the 21-year-old was a set away from a shock first round win over Pella but the former world No.
20 came from a set down to win 3-6 6-4 6-1. It remains to be seen if Cerundolo can clinch his maiden ATP win at the Cordoba Open, which will take place between February 03-09.
